Journaling Excerpts
I am taken by the wisdom found in the scriptures. As I was reading and thinking about the scripture reading for today, this verse stood out for me. "If you argue your case with a neighbour, do not betray another man's confidence." (Proverbs 25:9 NIV)Interesting!
When one is arguing their case, the point is to win. In the middle of the discussion, you are reminded of something that was told in confidence, and this bit of information would seal the deal for you. It would nail the argument down and you could walk away the victor. The problem is that it would destroy another man's trust in you. It is an interesting dilemma. On one hand, you can win and walk away with the spoils but lose the confidence another had in you. Or you can lose the argument and suffer loss, but retain the confidence of your neighbour. One is short term gain, but with a destroyed reputation, while the latter is short term loss, but long term relationships kept intact.
The matter gets right down to loving your neighbour. Are you willing to sell out your reputation, your relationships, and your future to win? Or, are you willing to love your neighbour no matter what the personal cost. This is the radical kind of living that Christianity calls to. And it is the kind that changes the world, as it is something that the world rarely sees in others.
One more thing: the test of our resolve is in the heat of the argument. The true test of love is to be able close the mouth, hold back the tongue, or push the words back that would make your point but destroy the heart of another. Or, as love says, I would rather be wronged than to destroy another.
Our Guest Speaker
During June, I am taking time for personal study. Therefore we are using the gifts of the local body to minister to us. This weekend we have Dan Poirier speaking in our Castlegar and Nelson worship services. Dan is an entrepreneur in the video industry, respected employee in the accounting business, sound engineer and dedicated volunteer at KCF.Let's go Fishing!
This weekend come out to SunFest and visit the CCF booth. We are having a "fishing pond." Helpers are needed too, if interested. J We will be there from 3pm to 8pm on Friday and then again on Saturday from 11am to 7pm.Eating Together
In Castlegar we will be meeting on Saturday at 5 pm for our monthly potluck at CCF. This is a great opportunity to invite new people, get to know people, and share a meal together. We do the same thing in Nelson at KCF on Sunday morning. Immediately following Dan's great preaching (that is after we have put away all our stuff) we will meet at KCF Hall for lunch.
What is Pastor Jim Up to?
I am leaving for Vancouver on Sunday afternoon for ministry and personal reasons. Sunday night I will be sharing at Abbotsford Pentecostal Assembly on our Haiti experience. Monday morning I am seeing an optometrist to see if I can be fitted with a special pair of glasses that may allow me to obtain a driver's license. Already the jokes are directed at my pending driving habits.Worship Together
We believe the most important weekly activity for a family is to do is to worship together. Sunday may not always be convenient for people, so we have developed the two site model. You can now choose to worship Saturday night or Sunday morning. Same sermon, just different location and times. Saturday night in Castlegar at 6:30pm with a professional child care service provided and Sunday morning in Nelson on Sundays at 10am. New in Nelson is our on site toddler ministry during the morning message. Our Daily Bread Fundraising News
We have had some wonderful press on Our Daily Bread lately. At the end of April we were told that we needed to install an exhaust fan for fire safety reasons. This had the potential of costing up to 30,000 dollars. We sent out an appeal for funds and as a result, 4810 dollars have been donated so far as well as a used exhaust fan valued at about 10,000 dollars. This is very exciting. With donated labour and some more of God's rich provision, we have confidence that the exhaust hood need will be met. In addition, 7900 dollars were donated for general operating costs. We give thanks to the many who donated and to God for his mercy on us. Here is a link to a very interesting newspaper article on ODB http://www.nelsondailynews.com/article/20100601/NELSON0101/306019999/-1/nelson/crunch-time-at-odb Copy and paste into your browser or go to www.nelsondailynews.com and type in CRUNCH TIME AT ODB.Look forward to seeing you this weekend.

We will be treated to a special dessert, a personal message from Pastor Jim, and a time of hilarious laughter courtesy of our special guest Nick and John. PLEASE RSVP today so we know how many desserts to make. Thanks.Space Needed
The worship band requires a space to practice in. It would require a dedicated space (does not need to be large) for them to use on Thursday nights for two hours. Any takers?Prayer Time
The single most important thing we can do as a church is PRAY!! Yet it often seems it is the most difficult thing to do. Hmmm, there might be a connection there. We have two opportunities for the whole church to participate in a corporate prayer meeting. One:
Sunday mornings at 9:30 am to 9:45 am. Come half hour early and spend 15 minutes in prayer before the morning worship.
Two:
Thursday mornings at 8:45 to 9:45 am. We will meet in our Church Hall at 812 Stanley Street. Come and stay for the hour or any portion there of. Your participation in group prayer is important. If you can’t make it feel free to pray at home.
Here are some prayer requests.
